Sex assault man guilty

A MAN has pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to a serious sexual assault on the day his trial was due to begin.

The 40-year-old, from Co Galway, pleaded guilty to the sexual assault of a woman sometime between September 1, 2004 and February 28, 2005.

Ms Justice O'Malley remanded the man on continuing bail to appear for sentencing in April. She ordered that he be placed on the sex offender's register and asked for a probation and welfare services report.

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion will kick off a long-overdue makeover when chief executive Thorsten Heins shows off the first phone with the new BlackBerry 10 system in New York today.

Repeated delays have left BlackBerry an afterthought in the shadow of Apple's trend-setting iPhone and Google's Android-driven devices.

RIM redesigned the system to embrace the multimedia, apps and touch-screen experience prevalent today.



Jet batteries

Japan's All Nippon Airways said today it replaced lithium-ion batteries on its Boeing 787 Dreamliners 10 times before a battery overheating incident led to the worldwide grounding of the jets.

All 50 of the Boeing 787s in use around the world were grounded after an ANA flight on January 16 made an emergency landing in Japan when its main battery overheated.
