Sean Og and Quirke engaged

IT'S the perfect Rebel County love match. Former Cork All-Ireland hurling captain and multiple All-Star winner Sean Og O'hAilpin has gotten engaged to his long-time girlfriend, Siobhan Quirke, who is the sister of Cork's football goalkeeper, Alan Quirke.

It also helps that Siobhan, like her future husband, is a lifelong GAA fanatic.

In keeping with his stylish on field performances over the years, Sean Og decided to pop the question to Siobhan during a romantic break in New York last weekend.

The couple have been dating for more than 15 years.

Elton John hits out at Russia

Elton John spoke out about gay persecution in Russia as he performed a concert in St Petersburg and said the world would lose its "humanity" if people were punished for their sexuality.

He has previously been a critic of the problems in Russia and made his views known while he was on-stage at the city's Ice Palace last night.

His performance in St Petersburg comes just days after a sculpture commemorating former Apple boss Steve Jobs, which had been placed at a university campus in the city, was dismantled because his successor has announced he is gay.
