Science projects win ¤15m boost

A HUGE €15m investment in Science Foundation Ireland projects has been unveiled by the Government,

A total of 79 schemes will receive the subsidies over the next four years.

Some of the projects include a volcanic ash forecasting system, research in renewable gas, cyber security and energy cells. The SFI funding to 15 research bodies will support the development of Ireland's human capital by providing employment and training to 94 researchers, mainly PhD students, according to the Minister for Research and Innovation, Sean Sherlock, above.

Also included are health research projects linked to cancer, schizophrenia, inflammation of the brain and incontinence.
