Bayern Munich star Bastian Schweinsteiger has paid tribute to one of the Irish students killed in the balcony collapse.
The Germany captain paid tribute to Nick Schuster (21), one of six students who lost their lives on Tuesday in Berkeley, California.
Schweinsteiger also sent his condolences to the Schuster family as well as all of the other victims of the incident.
He was initially contacted by friends of the student on Facebook, who said "words can't describe how grateful" family and friends would be if the professional footballer paid tribute to Nick, from Terenure.
"Nick was a Bayern fan. His heart still beats red and white. Bastian Schweinsteiger was his favourite player," the post said.
"You will find below a picture of where Nick and Basti got to know each other."
The international star duly obliged and shared a message on Facebook with his seven million followers alongside a picture of himself and Nick Schuster.
"The news makes me very sad. I wish you, the family and Nick's relatives strength at this very difficult times," he wrote.
"I would also like to express my condolences to all the other victims of this accident."
One of Bayern's supporters previously expressed sorrow at losing "one of their own".
"Yesterday one of our own left us. A balcony collapsed at a party and took Nick to his death," the fan's Facebook post read.
"We are sure that your heart still beats for FC Bayern Munich up there. RIP."
