Scams hit Irish firms

UP TO 60pc of Irish companies have fallen victim to business scams in the past year, according to a new survey.

The Irish Small & Medium Enterprises Association said small firms were being ripped off for thousands of euro, putting further pressure on businesses already suffering from the economic downturn. The survey found that 73pc of the scams were related to overseas offers, 57pc business directories and 46pc "phishing" as the main ploys used to cheat the business community.
