Sacked psychic wins €8k pay-off

PSYCHIC Una Power was celebrating last night after her former employer was ordered to pay her more than €8,000 in outstanding redundancy pay.

Ms Power (60), who hosted the Psychic Zone programme on popular radio station Dublin's 98 since November 1996, said she didn't see it coming when the station's management abruptly cut her hours and then cancelled the show after 12 years on air.

Management from the radio station could not be reached for comment last night.



Kidnap landlord thanks family

THE popular publican who was kidnapped by armed bandits in Sierra Leone last night thanked his family, friends and authorities in Ireland and West Africa for their goodwill following his release.

Ger Mulconry (72) was abducted outside his hotel in Freetown on Tuesday after arriving in the county to assist the local police in an investigation into a gold mining scheme when he was forced into a jeep at gunpoint. He was later rescued by local police who chased his captors.



Woman dies in motorbike crash

A 30-year-old woman has died in a motorcycle road traffic accident in Mayo the early hours of this morning.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at Clootumper, Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo shortly after 2am this morning , after the motorcycle on which she was a pillion passenger collided with a sign. The 26-year-old male driver of the vehicle was taken to Castlebar Hospital where his injuries are not believed to be serious.

Gardai are investigating the collision.



Two held over pub burglaries

Two men are still being held by gardai this morning in connection with a number of burglaries on rural pubs, including one that resulted in the death of a publican in Co Offaly.

Matt Farrell (64) was found tied to a chair at The Gaelic Bar in Daingean in April of last year.

He suffered head and facial injuries. The two men, both in their 20s, are being held at Tullamore Garda Station.
