Ruth and Dominic are back together... but only on screen, as Preacher returns
Irish actress Ruth Negga is set to be reunited with her ex Dominic Cooper on-screen when the third season of their show Preacher airs in the summer.
US network AMC has confirmed the drama has been renewed for a new batch of episodes that will premiere in America on Sunday, June 24.
English actor Dominic (39) portrays series lead Jesse Custer, a southern preacher who becomes possessed by a supernatural entity.
Ruth (36) stars as Tulip O'Hare, his "volatile" ex-girlfriend. Joseph Gilgun also stars as an Irish vampire named Cassidy.
AMC has also released the first images for the new series, which include Limerick woman Ruth walking down a deserted, tree-lined road.
The upcoming third series will follow the three main characters as they return to Jesse's hometown Angelville and find old grudges waiting for them.
Ruth and Dominic were said to have split in recent weeks after dating for more than eight years.
A source close to the couple said the break-up was down to their relationship simply running its course.
They first met while starring together in the 2009 National Theatre's production of Phedre in London.
Aside from Preacher, they have also worked together on the 2016 film Warcraft.
Oscar nominee Ruth previously told Harper's Bazaar magazine that she loved working with her former flame as "he's got my back and I've got his".
Both being actors, the former Love/Hate star said it made things easier, explaining the complexities of the job.
"People say, 'Never go out with an actor'. But if you were with someone with a normal job and one of you had to go away, how would that work?"
She later admitted the idea of starting a family is often on her mind.
"By the time you're in a great relationship, it's like, 'Oh, I'm 35. S**t.' So there is part of your thinking that is, 'Do I want kids? When? If? How?' It's there, all the time, preoccupying me," she said.
The notoriously private couple were last pictured together in November 2017, looking uncharacteristically loved-up while attending the Harper's Bazaar Woman of the Year Awards, where Ruth was honoured with the top gong.
