RTE stars step back in time for a period drama all of their own

THese RTE presenters are unrecognisable after donning glad rags dating from 100 years ago.

Miriam O'Callaghan, Keelin Shanley, David McCullagh, Rick O'Shea and Sean Rocks were completely transformed by the Abbey Theatre costume department into characters from the early 20th century.

The RTE stars were pictured at the launch of RTE's Road to the Rising marking the events leading up to the 1916 Rising.

On Easter Monday, O'Connell Street will be completely pedestrianised and brought back to what it looked like in 1915.

The family-friendly event will include vintage exhibitions, talks, tours and performances on Monday April 6.

Clerys, The Gresham and Wynns Hotel will all be serving up food from the era and Easons will have archive displays and readings.

There will also be a tented village featuring professions from the era and a vintage carousel.

At the GPO, the National Library's team of archivists are inviting the public to bring along items connected with the Rising.

The event is in partnership with An Post, Dublin City Council and the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
