Rory McIlroy missed out on a Major at the weekend, but he will win an even bigger prize this month when he jets into Ireland for his dream wedding.
The Herald can today reveal the date and the place of his big day.
Golfing superstar Rory and his American fiancee Erica Stoll will wed on the weekend of April 21 in Ashford Castle in Cong, County Mayo.
The sport's biggest names are expected to fly into Ireland for the wedding while pop star pal Niall Horan from One Direction is also tipped to be in attendance.
Rory revealed that he would have worn the prestigious green jacket from the Masters on his wedding day if he'd won the title in Augusta.
Speaking after the tournament, the Co Down native (27) said that he was "excited" about the prospect of becoming a married man.
"It would have been nice to walk down the aisle in the green jacket," he said.
"We're very excited. It's a great time in our lives and it's all about that over the next couple of weeks. I'll come back at the Players Championship refreshed and a married man and start a new chapter in my life."
Rory, who is worth more than €400m, now has the best part of a month off from the pressure of playing in tournaments as he relishes the build-up to his big day and enjoys some well-earned time off.
He will be able to put away the clubs until next month, when he competes in the Players Championship in Florida, which takes place from May 11 to 14.
A phone call to the Ashrod Castle yesterday about the possibility of booking a room for the weekend after next was greeted with a polite reply: "Sorry but we are fully booked."
There was no confirmation from the reservations clerk however that the Castle had been rented out by Rory and Erica who are regular visitors to Ashford.
They've spent two New Year's Eves in the five star hotel where they enjoyed candle lit dinners and champagne as the clock counted down.
Privacy is a key factor when it comes to the venue, which underwent a major revamp last year. Well-off celebrities can keep their entire wedding away from prying eyes by booking out the whole castle and its 83 rooms for €70,000 in a special package.
Considered one of the sporting world's most eligible bachelors, Rory got engaged in December 2015 after popping the question to former PGA employee Erica during a trip to Paris.
