Reveller hit barman in face

A REVELLER punched a pub manager in the face and hit a barman in the ear when he tried to prevent them from ejecting a friend from the pub, a court heard.

Judge Anthony Halpin ordered Christian Goonery (24) to complete 180 hours community service in lieu of three months in prison.

Goonery, of Lindisfarne Avenue in Clondalkin, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to two counts of assault.

He also admitted charges of public drunkenness, threatening and abusive behaviour at Swallows Pub, in Clondalkin on February 11.



Man held over Mumbai attack

INDIAN police have arrested a man suspected of helping train the gunmen who killed 166 people during 2008's Mumbai attacks.

Sayed Zabiuddin, also known as Abu Hamza, is an Indian national who taught the attackers to speak Hindi.



Nepal rain god festival begins

THOUSANDS of Nepalis threw coins and marigolds at a giant chariot over the weekend in a centuries-old ritual to appease the rain god and assure a good harvest, as well as guaranteeing good omens for the country's rulers.

The annual two-month chariot festival for Rato Machhindranath, revered as the god of rain, has begun.
