Reveller faces trial for alleged punch

A REVELLER accused of punching another man and knocking him unconscious outside a nightclub is facing trial.

Colum Hanlon (25) allegedly left the victim with a broken nose and fractured eye socket following the roadside assault.

The accused, of Smithfield Market, appeared before Dublin District Court charged with seriously assaulting another man on Camden Street, Dublin 2 on November 15, 2013.

The court heard the DPP had directed summary disposal of the matter in the District Court.

Outlining the allegation for jurisdiction purposes, a garda said it will be alleged that Mr Hanlon punched another man, knocking him to the ground.

Judge Denis McLoughlin refused jurisdiction of the charge and adjourned the matter to October for the book of evidence.
