Retail: Widespread lack of confidence in retail
HALF of Irish retailers recently surveyed admit that their own business performance is very poor.
Retail Ireland said the results show a significant deterioration in sentiment since early summer. Director Torlach Denihan said the recovery in retail sales, evident earlier in the year, has stalled.
"The domestic economy remains fragile and recent negative economic news is weighing on consumers," he said.
Only 5pc of respondents are more confident about their business than they were three months ago.
