Radio host Adrian Kennedy has opened up about the moment a sinister and vile threat was made against his family while he was live on air.

The disturbing text message was sent into 98FM's Dublin Talks show yesterday as Adrian and Jeremy Dixon presented the programme.

It read: "Adrian im gna rape ur wife and cut her slowly while burning ur kids."

The Herald columnist said texts to the station came in on a computer monitor so that the hosts can see them as they are doing the show.

"This text just caught my eye. I had to look twice at it to see if I was reading it right," Adrian told the Herald.

"Myself and Jeremy were on air at the time. I was left speechless."

Adrian addressed the texter live on air, saying: "We will be forwarding your text message on to the gardai because your text is the most vile text I've ever, ever received while doing a radio programme in Dublin. I'm shocked."

The show subsequently received a second text from the phone, with the listener claiming his colleagues had sent the threatening text on his work phone, which he had left with them in a van.

"I am the owner Adrian and I'm sorry," read the text.

"This is my work phone and I'm really sorry that that scumbag sent it. I sent him home. I'm so sorry. This is my work phone.

"How dare he find it funny. I'm really sorry."

Sick

The owner of the phone went on air to reiterate what he had said, adding: "I apologise. I listen to you all the time. That message they sent was sick."

However, Jeremy said he did not believe his "story".

Adrian was left shaken by the incident. "I am very good at ignoring stuff when I read nasty stuff online. It doesn't bother me," he said.

"It goes in one ear and out the other. I don't get riled. But it was just this one, because it was so personal.

"To even think of sending a text like that, I just find vile. To even have those thoughts in your head. I want gardai to tell whoever it was sent that text, that it is not acceptable. Even if you think it is some sort of a joke, it's not."

Adrian's partner Linda Byrne (52) was very upset when she heard about the text, as was his daughter Laura (20). His son Sean (24) lives in Canada.

98FM contacted gardai about the text, and Adrian has an appointment at Pearse Street Garda Station today.

In a statement, the station said: "We have been in contact with the gardai and 98FM management would like to point out that they take the safety of all their employees very seriously."
