Pym will be new chairman of AIB
Allied Irish Banks has announced a new chairman to replace David Hodgkinson.
Richard Pym (64) will be appointed to the board as a non-executive director and chairman-designate from October 13, with Mr Hodgkinson due to retire from the board in December.
Mr Pym (pictured) is a chartered accountant and the current chairman of the Co-operative Bank, Nordax Finans and UK Asset Resolution Limited. He is also a former group chief executive of Alliance & Leicester. He will be standing down as Co-operative chairman later in the year.
Finance Minister Michael Noonan, who paid tribute to Mr Hodgkinson, said Mr Pym has a wealth of experience in the UK banking sector and expressed confidence that he would be a strong chairman of AIB.
