Protesters to stay 20m back

A 20-METRE exclusion zone has been imposed by the High Court against protesters at locations where water meters are being installed in Dublin.

Meter installation contractor, GMC Sierra Ltd had in early October secured injunctions preventing a number of individuals, or anyone who had notice of the order, from assaulting, intimidating or interfering with its workers.

It was claimed workers had been harassed and threatened while they were installing meters in the Dublin 5 and Dublin 13 areas.

Yesterday, the company returned to court seeking an additional order establishing the 20m zones around its work stations because of the escalation of what it says is unlawful activity by protesters.

Lawyers for several protesters opposed the application for the exclusion zones and deny any wrongdoing.
