Prisoner denies hitting officer

A PRISON officer was left with a bloody nose after he was attacked by an inmate, it is alleged.

Ian Quinn (30) allegedly hit the prison officer in the face after a struggle broke out as he was being taken from a medical room.

Quinn, of Donomore Park in Tallaght, appeared before Cloverhill District Court charged with seriously assaulting a prison officer. He has denied the charge.

The alleged incident took place at Wheatfield Prison, Cloverhill Road in Clondalkin on March 22 last year.

The case was adjourned until March.



Suspect on ¤4k cannabis charge

A MAN accused of growing cannabis plants with a potential value of €4,000 has been remanded in custody for a week.

Christopher McClure (40) was allegedly caught after detectives raided a house in Crumlin just after Christmas.

At Cloverhill District Court, Judge Ann Watkin remanded McClure, of no fixed abode, in custody for one week.

The alleged incident took place at Monasterboice Road, Crumlin, on December 27 last.

Gardai claimed they found nine cannabis plants, which had a potential street value of €4,000.

The officers said that they were satisfied the plants were for the defendant's personal use.



Doorman jailed for shop raid

A DOORMAN who robbed a female shop assistant at knifepoint has claimed it was "an act of desperation" to repay a drug debt.

Richard Bradshaw (32) pulled a knife on the woman and demanded that she hand over the contents of the shop till.

He needed the money to pay off a drug debt of €500.

Bradshaw, of Cashel Avenue, Crumlin, admitted before Swords District Court to robbery at the Favourite Shop, Greenlea Road in Terenure on September 19 last year.

He was given a six-month jail term.
