Prison escapee faces extradition

A 66-YEAR-OLD man faces possible extradition to the UK following his escape from an English prison where he was serving life for murder.

Anthony Craig served 28 years in jail before escaping and moving to Co Cork.

Counsel for the Minister of Justice, Diarmaid McGuinness, told the High Court that Craig had been living in Ireland for eight years. In a note read to the court, Craig said he had been rehabilitated. “Ireland has given me a chance. I am sorry for taking the life of an innocent man.”

Mr Justice John Edwards said judgement is expected on June 27.

Fire at home of model Schiffer

Parts of supermodel Claudia Schiffer’s home have been damaged in a blaze.

Up to 50 firefighters were called to the mansion at Coldham Hall in Lawshall, Suffolk. The star has lived at the 16th century property with her husband, film producer Matthew Vaughn, since 2002. They have three children.

A number of outbuildings and stables, including a clock tower, were damaged in the fire.

Court clears FBI man of murder

A US appeals court has overturned the murder conviction for a former FBI agent linked to mobster Whitey Bulger.

The Florida court ruled that John Connolly was improperly convicted and sentenced to 40 years for his role in the 1982 slaying of a gambling executive.

A hit man had testified that he killed World Jai-Alai President John Callahan after ex-agent Connolly tipped Bulger and others that the executive would implicate them in another death.

Connolly has long denied a role in Callahan’s slaying.

Man threw his girl (2) to death

A New Jersey man who tossed his two-year-old daughter into a creek while she was strapped into her car seat apologized — but not for murdering her.

Just before he was sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison, Arthur Morgan III apologized to the child’s mother for the deterioration of their friendship. Morgan also said he would not have worn designer clothing to court if he knew he would be criticized in the medi.
