Priest dies after 35ft ladder fall
AN IRISH priest died after he fell 35 feet from a ladder at his UK church while cleaning.
Fr John Cribben (76), who was originally from Kilkelly in Co Mayo, had been parish priest at the church near Preston for the past 18 years.
The popular priest was found dead in Our Lady and St Patrick's Church in Walton-le-Dale, near Preston last Tuesday.
His body was discovered by a parishioner.
It is believed he had fallen from the ladder while cleaning.
A second Lee novel in 50 years
Pulitzer Prize-winning author Harper Lee will publish her second novel more than 50 years after the release of her classic To Kill a Mockingbird, her publisher said on Tuesday.
Go Set a Watchman, which was written in the 1950s and features characters from To Kill a Mockingbird, is scheduled to be published on July 14 by Harper Publishers.
"It features the character known as Scout as an adult woman and I thought it a pretty decent effort," Lee said in a statement.
New judge for extradition case
a new judge will hear the extradition case of a Wicklow man wanted for trial in the US over his alleged links to the underground website Silkroad.
Gary Davis (26), of Johnstown Court, Kilpedder, Co Wicklow, is wanted by US authorities to face trial on charges of conspiracy to distribute narcotics, conspiracy to commit computer hacking and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
Mr Davis was first arrested on foot of a warrant issued by the High Court last January and is currently on bail.
Madonna set to rock Brit awards
Madonna will be performing at the Brit Awards, the star has confirmed.
The 56-year-old singer posted a message to her fans on Twitter, writing: "Hello to all my UK Rebel Hearts!!! See you at the Brits on Feb 25th".
Madonna, who is releasing new album Rebel Heart, will also be on stage at the Grammys next month.
The Like A Virgin star last performed at the Brits in 1995, when she sang Bedtime Story.
