Defence counsel Damian McKeone said the youth had done all he was supposed to do under a restorative justice programme, and Judge John O'Connor applied the Probation Act.

The incident happened after the American Airlines Boeing 767-300 left Zurich bound for New York yesterday morning.

A spokesman for American said the passengers would be flown on to New York later. It was not known why the windscreen cracked, but a common cause is a bird strike.
