Peacemaker hit in street fight

A PUBGOER was punched in the face and knocked to the ground after he tried to break up an altercation between two other revellers, a court heard.

Conor Quinn (26) left the victim with a broken tooth and cut lip following the roadside assault. The defendant, of Malahide Marina in Malahide, admitted before Swords District Court to seriously assaulting another man.

The assault took place at New Street in Malahide at 1am on June 26, 2011. Judge Brian Sheridan adjourned sentencing to a date in March.



Obama tribute to dead coach

US President Barack Obama has offered his condolences to the family of legendary Penn State American football coach Joe Paterno, who died of lung cancer.

The White House said the president spoke with Paterno's wife, Sue, and son, Jay, to express his condolences.

The White House said the president recalled fond memories of when he first met Mr Paterno.
