Patrick meets crew who delivered him in mid-air

THE only child ever to be born on an Aer Lingus flight has made his first visit to Ireland for a celebratory lunch.

Patrick Loueiro (39) was born on July 10, 1975; just three hours after a flight from Mozambique to Lisbon took off.

The Boeing 747 was named St Patrick and the 393 passengers and crew first met the newborn somewhere over Zambia.

Aer Lingus launched a social media campaign on his birthday to track Patrick down and eventually traced him to Portugal.

Yesterday Patrick, who lives in a small village in north Portugal, spoke to Louise McSharry on 2fm.

"My father was a military in Portugal, and then with the Portuguese revolution in 1974, they needed to get out of there quickly."

In a twist of fate, Anne Sherry, the mother of Dave Sherry, who is a researcher for the 2fm show was a member of the cabin crew and was invited to the lunch in Dublin Airport.
