Passenger killed as car crashes into M1 barrier

A man was killed when a car smashed into a barrier in the middle of the M1 motorway early today.
The car ploughed into the central reservation on the northbound carriageway at Donabate at 3.30am.
A man in his 20s, a backseat passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other young men were taken to Beaumont Hospital where they were discharged after treatment.
Fire brigade units from Balbriggan, Swords and Phibsboro went to the scene of the crash.
Five people were injured in another horrific car crash outside Celbridge, Co Kildare, today.
The car struck a pole on a bend about 1km from the town centre on the Clane Road at 5.30am.
The car somersaulted and ended up on its roof on the road. Occupants were flung from the car onto the roadway.
Three men and two woman, all aged in their 20s, were hurt.
One of the occupants, a 21-year-old woman, was seriously injured, according to emergency crews.
Three of the injured were taken to James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown and two were taken to Tallaght Hospital.
Meanwhile, gardai are investigating a car crash at Wolfestown, Eadestown, Naas, Co Kildare, shortly after midnight on Sunday.
A 21-year-old man, a rear seat passenger, received serious injuries and was taken to Naas General Hospital where his condition was described as critical. The driver and front seat passenger, both males in their late teens, were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
