Parents of boy (8) left him to die of cancer
THE parents of an eight-year-old boy who died from Hodgkin lymphoma after suffering for months from undiagnosed swollen glands were sentenced to eight years in prison after denying him medical treatment.
Lawyers for Monica Hussing (37) and William Robinson Sr (40) had said the parents had financial problems and tried to get check-ups for their son Willie but couldn't afford it.
The couple pleaded guilty last month in Cleveland, Ohio, to attempted involuntary manslaughter in a last-minute deal before their trial was about to begin. Both plan to appeal.
According to the prosecution, at least eight family members spoke to the couple about Willie's deteriorating health.
Both parents had abused drugs, the judge was told.
Willie collapsed at his home on March 22, 2008. Prosecutors say he had begged his parents to take him to see a doctor but was rejected.
The judge compared a photo of his emaciated body to that of a concentration camp victim.
