THE controversial 'Achill-henge' structure erected by Joe McNamara looks set to be demolished after An Bord Pleanala ruled against it.
The body ruled that the Mayo structure was not an ornamental garden, as claimed by Mr McNamara. The case will now return to the High Court where Mayo County Council will seek to have it demolished.
Mr McNamara built the structure over the course of one weekend at Pollagh on Achill Island last November.
The former developer, who is now working in the construction trade, had no permission for the build which is 4.5m high and 30m in diameter. He claimed the Stonehenge-like build was exempt from planning laws.
