Opera stars set for one-off Irish concert

TWO of the world's greatest opera stars are to grace Cork for a one-off joint concert next summer.

Spanish tenor Jose Carreras and Welsh superstar Katherine Jenkins are to perform at the special concert on June 20 at Irish Independent Park.

It will be the first-ever Cork performance by the Spanish star while Katherine Jenkins is making a return visit after a sellout show at Cork City Hall in 2013.

Jose Carreras said it was a double thrill to perform in Ireland and to sing alongside Katherine Jenkins.

"I am thrilled to come to Cork and perform in this unmatched atmosphere. Katherine is a beautiful lady, a wonderful singer and a very nice colleague. I am very much looking forward to performing with her again." he said.

"Apart from our solo pieces we will also perform some wonderful duets like the drinking song from La Traviata."

The Welsh singer said she was so delighted by her 2013 concert she couldn't wait to make a return visit.

"The audiences at City Hall, like all Irish audiences, were amazing last time I performed there. To return to sing at a concert of this scale and with Jose is something I'm really looking forward to and is the only way to better the last time I visited Cork," she said.

Both stars will be accompanied by Cork City Symphony Orchestra.

The coup follows the incredible success of an Il Divo concert last summer at Irish Independent Park which is one of the traditional homes of Munster rugby.
