Oops, poor Derek gets Fame result all wrong

RTE star Derek Mooney was left red-faced after announcing the wrong result on Fame: The Musical.

In the course of last night's live programme, Mooney told contestant Stuart Pollock that he was safe for another week.

JOKED

However, he then quickly corrected himself, Stuart and viewers by explaining there had been a communications error.

Stuart, he now said, was one of the contestants with the lowest number of votes and had to perform in the sing-off -- which he went on to lose.

Derek apologised to Stuart several times, who joked to him: "I don't know if I will ever talk to you again."

However, he added: "I did myself justice tonight, I wish the others the best of luck."

Fellow contestant Sarah O'Connor was the lowest female after the public votes were counted -- but won in the sing-off against Stuart after a casting vote by judge Simon Delaney. The judges again disagreed with the choice of the public, with one judge Robert C Kelly saying: "It is very strange to me the way it falls each week."

Last night's programme saw the ten finalists sing live in The Helix in front of Delaney, producer Robert C Kelly and Erica Gimpel, who starred as Coco in the original Fame TV series.

CIRCLE

Songs featured in last night's programme included hits from Cheryl Cole and Snow Patrol. Contestants also sang Lion King song The Circle of Life before the votes were counted.

The show is offering one male and female singer the chance to star in the nationwide Fame tour.
