A BETTING tax for online gambling is expected to be formally introduced here next January.
A spokesperson for the Department of Finance outlined that the issue remains under consideration. But Goodbody Stockbrokers is predicting that the levy could be in place early next year.
In a research note on Paddy Power, Goodbody said it was increasing its full-year 2010 earnings per share forecast for the company by 3pc to 155c and leaving its 2011 forecast unchanged.
It said this included the assumption that a betting tax on Irish non-retail turnover will be introduced from January 2011.
