O'Carroll tops poll as dream Christmas dinner guest
His Mrs Brown's Boys special is often a highlight of the festive TV schedule - and it seems show creator Brendan O'Carroll is also a popular man when it comes to Christmas dinner guest choices.
One in four Irish people said the Dublin funnyman would be their celebrity of choice to have over for dinner on December 25.
O'Carroll's hit series will feature strongly on RTE's festive schedule with two specials, one on Christmas Day and the other on New Year's Day.
Proving that humour is a top priority for a Christmas dinner guest, one in five respondents to a poll said Chris O'Dowd would be an ideal Christmas companion while 8pc said actress Amy Huberman would be their festive guest of choice.
The poll, which surveyed 302 adults, was conducted by Carphone Warehouse and examined the choices we make at Christmas, from picking presents to choosing who we spend time with.
Almost 30pc of those questioned said they spent over a full day choosing gifts at Christmas, while almost three in four (72pc) said they would choose Christmas dinner over receiving a gift.
When given the choice of where to spend Christmas, it seems there really is no place like home, with 63pc saying they would opt to spend it with family and friends.
Only 4pc would like to spend the festive season on their own and 6pc said they would choose to go abroad.
Over a third (37pc) of shoppers said they started planning for Christmas straight after Halloween while 30pc said planning did not kick off until December 1.
Over half (58pc) set out a budget for their shopping in advance but 59c admitted to going over budget once the festive spirit kicked in.
