Nursing home sit-in pays off for the staff

Health workers who staged a sit-in at the shutdown Rostrevor nursing home in Dublin said they have been guaranteed they will receive all money owed to them.

The staff of the nursing home in Rathgar held the sit-in protest yesterday in pursuit of demands for assurances they would receive all payments to which they were entitled.

The premises was closed down as a result of legal moves by the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA).

All the residents were moved elsewhere.

A spokeswoman for the workers said Sarah Lipsett, one of the owners of Rostrevor, had given them a guarantee that they would be paid all monies owed.

An interim order was obtained by HIQA following allegations that a former care assistant physically abused five residents at the home. The care assistant who was suspended by the owners has rejected all the allegations made against him.

The HSE took over the running of the home while the residents were being transferred to other facilities.
