Number of Jewish people growing

An Israeli think tank says the worldwide Jewish population is nearly as large as it was before the Holocaust.

The Jewish People Policy Institute said there are 14.2m Jews in the world. When factoring in individuals with one Jewish parent and others who identify as partially Jewish, the figure approaches 16.5m - the population on the eve of World War II. The largest number of Jews lives in Israel, with about 6.1m, followed by the US at 5.7m. France is a distant third with 475,000.
