Now FF candidate tells Martin to ditch ministerial pay-offs
A HIGH-profile Fianna Fail candidate has called on party leader Micheal Martin to ditch the lucrative severance pay-off for ministers. Mayor of Galway and FF candidate in Galway West, Cllr Michael Crowe, said there was a generation gap, with many Oireachtas members over 50 believing they were entitled to handsome lump sums when they leave office.
His stance puts him at loggerheads with Mr Martin, who has refused to give up his own €90,000 pay-off as a former minister.
Meanwhile, party deputy leader Mary Hanafin has said she would be willing to forgo the pay-off -- but only if the scheme was changed for everyone.
