Note found near spot where mum Anna died

GRIEF: Tragic wife is laid to rest

A NOTE was found near the area where tragic mum Anna Byrne's body was discovered.

Anna (35), who was heavily pregnant with twins, died when she fell from a cliff in Howth last week.

The beautiful young mother was laid to rest in Dublin today.

A six-page note to loved ones was found close to the scene.

Anna's body was found near the Baily lighthouse off Howth at first light lastThursday. The Sutton native, who was 38 weeks pregnant, had been missing for 24 hours. Mourners gathered along with her devastated husband Terry in Bayside this morning to pay their final respects to Anna.

At her removal on Saturday evening in the Church of the Resurrection in Bayside, parish priest Fr Kit Sheridan said that "profound shock" were the only words to describe how everyone was feeling.

"Beautiful and gentle Anna, let her rest in peace now in Heaven with her twins," he said.

"When we are hit by a huge shock like this it is met with silence. Silence is not just an empty thing. It's not just an absence of words. Sometimes it is a totally appropriate response in the face of death, and especially in Anna's tragic death."

Anna was last seen on Wednesday morning after she dropped her sons Joe (8) and Aidan (4) to school and the creche near their home in Dunboyne, Meath.

When she failed to collect Aidan, the alarm was raised. Anna's mobile phone signal was traced to Dun Laoghaire and it was thought that she may have boarded a ferry.

Her brother Ciaran Deeney, a filmmaker, organised a late-night search party on Wednesday in Dun Laoghaire. But just hours later, her Nissan Micra was found at Howth Summit.

Her family, friends and other searchers rushed to scene and her devastated husband Terry collapsed and had to be taken away for medical treatment.

Anna's body was discovered by the garda helicopter at first light the next morning near rocks some 100ft from the sea.

On Saturday at 5pm, her coffin was carried into the Bayside church by devastated family members.

Anna's father John placed his arms on the shoulders of his wife Anna and daughter Lisa as his sons Ciaran and Richard followed the coffin into the chapel.

The funeral Mass was held this morning at the Church of the Resurrection, followed by burial in Fingal Cemetery.
