'No plans' to sell National Lottery

REPORTS that the National Lottery could be sold as part of a widespread sell-off by the Government have been dismissed by sources.

Energy Minister Pat Rabbitte (right) confirmed that a memo was being prepared to investigate which semi-states would be most suitable for sale to the private sector.

The Programme for Government contains a commitment to save up to €2bn through the disposal of non-strategic state assets and Mr Rabbitte said that the ECB, EU and IMF are looking for savings of more than €2bn.

However, it is understood the Lottery was not on the priority list and there were no "immediate plans" to sell it.

The organisation made a profit of almost €250m last year.
