TOYOTA is facing fresh quality woes with 1.7 million vehicles being recalled around the world.
The country's most popular car brand will recall 253 Toyota Avensis models in Ireland while Lexus, Toyota's luxury brand, will call in 186 models.
The problem, which affects a fuel pipe and fuel pump valve, involves cars produced between 2000 and 2008. Avensis models affected will be the 2.0/2.4 litre petrol only vehicles while the Lexus IS250 petrol vehicles are being recalled to check the power on the fuel pressure sensor.
Toyota Ireland moved swiftly today to quell fears among customers and insisted the recall is "precautionary".
