New car sales slump
NEW car sales in Ireland slipped back last month after the ending of the scrappage scheme.
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) said 6,953 new cars were licensed in July, down 0.9pc from the 7,018 recorded in July last year. Meanwhile, production levels in the State dropped in June by 0.6pc, led by a decline in hi-tech and chemical sectors.
CSO said that there was a slight 0.3pc increase in the "traditional" sector. However, the "modern" sector, comprising hi-tech and chemical sub-sectors, showed an annualised decline in production levels of 1.2pc in June.
