New Assistant News Editor

Kevin Doyle has been appointed Assistant News Editor with the Evening Herald.

The 25-year-old from Ferbane, Co Offaly has worked with the newspaper since graduating from Dublin City University in 2008.

He worked as a news reporter before being appointed Political Reporter as the economic crisis set in.

During his time in that position he regularly set the news agenda, breaking hard-hitting stories about what was really going on behind the doors of Leinster House.



Teen held in hacking probe

A teenager suspected of masterminding a global computer hacking plot from his bedroom could face a fight against extradition to the US.

Ryan Cleary was arrested at his detached family home in Essex in England yesterday as part of a Scotland Yard and FBI probe into LulzSec, a group claiming responsibility for hacking attempts on the UK's Serious Organised Crime Agency, the US Senate and the CIA.



Boy (9) dies after crash

A nine-year-old boy has died following a plane crash in north-west Russia, raising the death toll to 45, the Emergencies Ministry said.

The RusAir Tu-134 crashed in heavy fog late on Monday, just moments away from landing at Petrozavodsk Airport.

Eight people initially survived the crash, dragged from the burning wreckage by locals.



Drivers cutting back on costs

Almost half of motorists are cutting back on journeys for financial reasons, according to a survey by the RAC.

The cost-of-motoring impact is likely to get worse with car users feeling isolated, particularly those in rural areas, the UK poll found.

Of the 1,002 motorists surveyed, 48pc were reducing car journeys on cost grounds.
