Neighbour threatened over hoax

FURY: 'He laughed at bomb scare'

A DUBLIN man who threatened a neighbour has claimed it was "a moment of madness" after the neighbour started laughing and said it was funny that a suspect bomb had been found near his mother's house.

James Jameson (29) told the neighbour that he was "going to get him".

He said he had no intention of carrying out the threats but was anxious and stressed out after an elaborate hoax bomb was found by his mother's house.

A judge ordered Jameson to enter into a peace bond for one year.

The defendant, of Cherryfield Lawn, Hartstown, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to threatening and abusive behaviour. The incident took place on August 26 at Cherryfield View.

Garda Sergeant Maria Callaghan said gardai were called following reports of two men fighting. She said Jameson threatened to injure the other man, and told him he was going to get him, and that the gardai couldn't help him.

Defence solicitor Martin Coen said that a suspect bomb had been found in Cherryfield and the army bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion on the device, which was later discovered to be an elaborate hoax.

Mr Coen said the incident happened near Jameson's home, and a large number of neighbours gathered around the scene to see what was going on.

The lawyer said that one of Jameson's neighbours, who he has never had any problem with before, started laughing and the defendant confronted him about his behaviour.

Mr Coen said Jameson asked this man if he found the incident funny, and he told him "yes".

The threats, which occurred two weeks later, were "a moment of madness" which Jameson had no intention of carrying out.

The court heard that Jameson, who is not working, had been under a lot of stress as his family had been targeted for something his younger brother was blamed for.

Judge Brian Sheridan ordered Jameson to enter into a peace bond for one year.
