Musical plan for Dahl novel

Oscar-winning film-maker Sam Mendes is returning to the West End with a musical version of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.

The production, which will open at the London Palladium next June, includes new songs by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, who wrote the musical Hairspray.

Roald Dahl's 1964 novel, which tells the story of Charlie Bucket's visit to Willy Wonka's mysterious factory, has twice been made into a hit film.

The 1971 film starred Gene Wilder as the mysterious Mr Wonka, with Johnny Depp taking the role in the 2005 remake.



Singer admits to 'girl crush'

Singer Florence Welch has revealed that she has a 'girl crush' on rapper MIA.

The Florence And The Machine star (25) has been dating events organiser James Nesbitt after splitting with her long-term boyfriend.

But she said: "I have a massive girl crush on MIA -- her video for Bad Girls is the best music video I've ever seen." Welch also said she had her eye on US rapper ASAP Rocky.



Bling author found dead

Writer Erica Kennedy has been found dead in her Miami Beach apartment. She was 42.

Police confirmed that Kennedy, whose full name was Erica Kennedy Johnson, was found dead last week. No cause was immediately reported.

She published the hip-hop satire Bling in 2004, with a book cover of her own design.

It became a New York Times best-seller and was optioned for film. Kennedy's follow-up novel, Feminista, was published in 2009.



Four killed as landslide hits

A landslide triggered by torrential rain in eastern Indonesia has killed at least four people and buried seven others.

Richard Louhenapessy, mayor of Maluku's provincial capital, Ambon, said five houses were buried when mud gushed down from surrounding hills in the village of Soya.

He said four bodies were found early today, including a four-year-old boy. Two people were brought to a hospital with injuries.
