Some of Ireland's top musical talents are taking to the stage tonight for Focus Ireland's Rock Against Homelessness concert.

Sponsored by INM, the bash is being held at the Olympia Theatre and starts at 8pm.

It brings together some of the country's best acts - including the Boomtown Rats - for a major charity gig to help combat Ireland's growing homeless problem.

Top musicians including Glen Hansard, The Blizzards, Delorentos, Paul Cleary of The Blades, Ivy Nations, August Wells, HamsandwicH are also taking part.

RTE comedy star Katherine Lynch will be providing the laughs as MC.

According to the most recent figures, there are 7,167 homeless people in Ireland, of whom 2,407 are children.

A child became homeless every five hours in January, according to Focus Ireland.

Speaking about the issue of homelessness earlier this year, Hansard said: "It isn't just about four walls and a roof, it isn't just about a bed, it's a lot more than that.

"There's more services needed, it's a massive mental health issue and people have real needs."

There are still some tickets for the concert left from Ticketmaster outlets, at a cost of €30
