children, she retrieved the bank cards from her house and returned to the car. The menacing thief then instructed her to drive to the AIB bank in Rathgar.
When they arrived at the bank, he threatened her again and told her to use the cards to withdraw a substantial amount of cash from the ATM machine at the bank. She obeyed his demands and returned with the cash to the car.
The thug then threatened the family again and
he forced her to drive towards the city centre. At Portobello, he instructed her to stop the car and he got out a left the scene.
The distraught mother alerted gardai. She and her two children were not physically harmed by their abductor.
Gardai have issued an alert for the male and have appealed to anyone would might be able to help to find the dangerous unknown individual.
The woman and her children were travelling in a Grey BMW Estate car.
“The culprit is described as being about 5’9” tall with a shaved head of dark hair,” a garda spokesman said.
“He was of medium build and was wearing a dark wax type jacket and a dark scarf.”
Gardai are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them at Terenure Garda station.
Gardai are also appealing for anyone who may have seen unusual behavior around the ATM at the AIB Bank in Rathgar at approximately 4.05pm to 4.10pm to contact them in Terenure on 01 6666400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
Local Fine Gael Councillor Edie Wynne told
“This is quite appalling that this should happen to a parent who was out with her two children in the car. God knows what sort of state that poor woman and her family are in. She was probably bringing them home from school or had been visiting a local park,” she said.
“I really feel for her. I have a daughter who has two young children of her own and to think that this could happen. Local people are shocked and very worried by this.
