MS sufferer's punch left garda with cut lip
A YOUNG woman punched a garda in the face as he was arresting her brother, who had blocked a patrol car from moving off during a melee.
Anna Clifford (26) attacked the garda as officers struggled with her brother Anthony (20) while their patrol car was surrounded by an intimidating gang of youths.
Their other brother, Paul (23) was out celebrating Father's Day when he saw what was happening, went to help his siblings and was also arrested.
The incident happened while a patrol car was surrounded by another group of youths after the officers followed a man who had been involved in throwing missiles. Gardai had to use batons and pepper spray on some of the crowd. The three defendants, of Mourne Road, Drimnagh, all admitted a breach of the peace near the Royal Canal in Rialto.
Anna Clifford, who suffers from MS, also pleaded guilty to assaulting garda Richard Browne. Dublin District Court heard Anthony Clifford refused to move and "went for" Garda Browne.
As the two became entangled, Anna Clifford punched the garda in the face with a closed fist, cutting his lip.
Judge Ann Watkin adjourned the cases against all three accused for probation reports.
