Motorist thought search was a prank

A DRIVER who verbally abused gardai after his vehicle was searched for drugs thought it was a prank, a court heard.

Patrick Clarke (28) was stopped after gardai received false information that his car contained an illegal substance.

Judge David McHugh imposed a two-month suspended sentence.

Clarke, of Corduff Place in Blanchardstown, admitted to a breach of the peace at Navan Road, Dublin 15 on April 7.

Sergeant Maria Callaghan told Blanchardstown District Court that Clarke reacted badly and failed to calm down when gardai searched his vehicle.

Solicitor Fiona Brennan said Clarke did not have any drugs and felt he had been either set up or the victim of a prank.

Ms Brennan said the defendant was sorry for his behaviour.
