Broadcaster Miriam O'Callaghan has refused to rule out running for the presidency.

There is growing speculation that the Prime Time host will put her name forward for the Aras.

Speaking to the Herald this morning, Ms O'Callaghan (inset) did not deny that she may contest the next presidential election, in 2018.

"I never even said anything in my life about running for president," she said.

"Who knows what anyone's going to do in two or three years' time? It's miles down the road.

"I don't know where this has come from.

"We have a brilliant president at the moment and that's all I have to say on the matter."

When asked about RTE's stance on her possible presidential ambitions, Ms O'Callaghan refused to comment further.

"I really have nothing more to say on it," she said at the launch of the Oireachtas Children's Future Health Group.
