Hollywood A-lister Michael Fassbender went back to his Co Kerry roots for the bank holiday weekend.

Fassbender, currently living in Dublin with his wife, Swedish actress Alicia Vikander, as she works on filming The Green Light, took a break from his busy lifestyle and hit the Kingdom for a few days.

He was event ambassador and participant in the Cartell.ie International Rally of the Lakes as it celebrated its 40th anniversary.

The twice Oscar-nominated actor only began motor racing in 2016, but was keen to don rally racewear and join in the fun with local musician Liam O'Connor at the ceremonial start of the rally.

He then sped off in a Mk 2 Ford Escort around some of Ireland's most famous and scenic rally roads.

As part of the event, Fassbender also visited schools in Killarney to speak about road safety.
