Michael D reveals the eateries fit for a President - without the cost
President Michael D Higgins has revealed some of his favourite spots around town -and a little Italian deli tops his list of best places to eat.
Mr Higgins was asked to name his 'Best of Dublin 2014', and he said that Mamma Mia on Grattan Street was one of his favourites.
Prices in the little Italian cafe start from just €3.50.
Another one of the president's favourite places is the Cedar Tree on St Andrew's Street.
He may have dined with royalty around the world, but Ireland's first citizen still likes his reasonably-priced food.
Speaking to Hot Press magazine about what he thinks are the best places in Dublin, he also referred to where he sources his ingredients for home cooking.
Mr Higgins' favourite place to pick up groceries is at the farmers' market in the People's Park in Dun Laoghaire.
His list of best places in the city was not limited to just food however, as the president stated his top places for a spot of clothes shopping.
Mr Higgins listed menswear designer Louis Copeland as one of his go-to haunts for styling.
He also said Abrahams Tailoring on South Anne Street was another of his shopping spots.
But the president travelled right to the heart of the capital to name his hero.
Mr Higgins said that Brother Kevin Crowley of the Capuchin Centre was his Dublin hero.
Br Kevin, who runs the homeless centre, recently told The Herald that the centre now hands out 1,700 food parcels a week - its highest since its opening in 1969.
