Michael D gives Grand Slam winners heroes' welcome at the Aras
PRESIDENT Michael D Higgins welcomed Joe Schmidt and his rugby heroes to a special reception at the Aras, where they were joined by a guest of honour - the Grand Slam trophy.
Leinster star Devin Toner and his wife Mary were among those who got the red carpet treatment in the Phoenix Park.
The Meath man, who stands at 6ft 10in, posed for photos next to a beaming Mr Higgins and cake specialist Mary, who looked elegant in red wide-leg trousers which she teamed with matching earrings and a cream top.
The players and staff also brought along the Triple Crown to show off after their winning run in this year's Six Nations which saw them emerge as unbeaten champions.
Captain Rory Best and New Zealander Schmidt shared a joke with the President as they showed off their hard-earned silverware.
Among those enjoying the day out was Leinster hero Johnny Sexton, whose last-ditch drop goal against France set Ireland on their way to Six Nations glory.
He was joined by his proud wife Laura, who is expecting the couple's third child at the end of th summer.
Leinster team-mate Cian Healy also met the President along with partner Laura Smith.
The national team's attention will soon turn Down Under as they are set to embark on a three-game tour of Australia.
First up, however, for the Leinster members of the Irish squad is next week's Champions Cup final against Racing Metro.
