Mergers hit $12bn
IRISH corporate law firm A&L Goodbody advised on 39 mergers and acquisitions during 2011.
The transactions last year were worth $11.969bn.
The major deals included Jazz Pharmaceuticals' reverse takeover of Azur Pharma, IBM's acquisition of Curam Software, Premier Foods on its sale of certain brands to Boyne Valley Group and Kennedy Wilson's acquisition of Bank of Ireland Real Estate Investment Management.
Mark Ward, who is the head of A&L Goodbody's M&A practice, said that the Irish M&A market has showed improvement in terms of activity in 2011.
"The most active sectors during the year were pharmaceutical, financial services, ICT and food and drink," Mr Ward reported.
He added that "there continues to be a significant level of international interest in Ireland".
