Meet the dolphins who have made our capital their home
MEET South Dublin's most sociable residents.
While the beachside town is known for its famous residents such as Van Morrison, Eddie Irvine and U2's The Edge, it appears that these boisterous characters have settled and made Dalkey their home.
Simon Berrow, of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, told the Herald that while most bottlenose dolphins travel right around the Irish coast, these three characters seem to have made Dublin their home.
"It's amazing that these three dolphins are only ever seen off the coast of Dublin. They're enthusiastic, they're sociable, they're so much fun and it's always a lovely surprise when they are spotted.
"With all the doom and gloom about, it's nice to take some time out and appreciate one of the most beautiful creatures in existence."
There has been a surge of dolphin sightings in our waters this year, with wildlife experts finding a 1,000-strong feeding group off the coast in February.
Simon said that the recent good weather is a major factor in the increase in sightings.
"The glorious weather of late means more people are out spotting them. They're there all year round but the summer is definitely the best time to watch them."
