Media creative talent as they vie for industry Oscars

Advertisers and agencies are gearing up for the industry event that showcases the best in Ireland's press ads.

The National Newspapers of Ireland (NNI) Press Ad Of The Year sees a selection of monthly winners from 2010 competing for best copywriting, best art direction, best regional ad and the overall best press ad from last year.

All last year's winners and runners-up will be eligible to win. Among those in contention are Owens DDB for Volkswagen; Publicis QMP/Spar; Bloom/Fujifilm; Bonfire/Betfair; Boys and Girls and Mediaworks for John West; Ogilvy & Mather/ISPCC; Carat/Cadbury's and Rainey Kelly, Mindshare and Kick for M&S.

NNI chairman Paul Cooke said the awards salute the "ideas people" in advertising.

Tough

He added: "Everyone knows how tough things are, and tightening budgets have affected adland as much as any sector. But in the creative business there is no let-up, the clients need to keep advertising, so the creators need to keep coming up with great ideas."

Among those who judged the monthly winners were Ger Roe, of Publicis QMP; Shay Madden, McCann Erickson; David Sneddon, Mindshare; Starcom's Craig Farrell; and Emmet Wright, of Chemistry. As with the former Power of the Press awards, the NNI has asked an international judge to oversee all the finalists.

Julian Borra, creative director of Team Saatchi in London, accepted the invite and he is due to attend the awards on March 10. The Press Ad Of The Month deadline for December is this Friday, with the winner being announced at the end of the month.
