'Massive fears' for girl robber

A 16-YEAR-OLD girl sparked massive concerns for her safety when she absconded from a care home for a week to stay with her boyfriend, a court heard.

The girl has already pleaded guilty to robbery of a man who had his smartphone worth €550 taken during an incident in Dublin in September 2012.

Garda Jennifer Weldon told Dublin Children's Court that since the girl last appeared in court two weeks ago she has repeatedly absconded from her care home accommodation.

The girl, who was accompanied to her hearing by care staff, was ordered to appear again next month.


A US man who says he killed his cancer-stricken wife at her request called police to confess minutes after the shooting and has been charged with murder.

Ernest Chris Chumbley told a police dispatcher in Kentucky he shot his wife twice in the face. Chumbley later told media from jail that she wanted her pain to end.

Chumbley (48) cried throughout the 16-minute call to police and says his wife had an appointment with her cancer doctor yesterday morning.

At one point, he asks the dispatcher if he can go see his wife's body in the bedroom, but he is told not to move.


A team investigating a fatal helicopter crash near Scotland's Shetland Islands said yesterday it had retrieved the aircraft's "black box" flight recorder which could help determine the cause of the accident.

Four oil rig contractors were killed when a Super Puma L2, made by EADS unit Eurocopter, crashed into the sea off Shetland's rocky southern coast last Friday.

She was also being treated for an injury to her foot sustained during her time in an Italian circus.
